SOV Presents Certificate to Del. HixsonSAVEourVotes Presents Certificates to
Del. Sheila Hixson, Speaker Michael Busch

Sunday morning, April 22, a 20th District Democratic Breakfast Club event honoring Maryland's Speaker of the House, Michael Busch (standing left in the photo), was held at Los Arrieros Restaurant in downtown Silver Spring. It was well attended by the District 20 delegation of the Maryland General Assembly, including Sen. Jamie Raskin and Delegates Heather Mizeur and Tom Hucker, as well as other elected officials from Montgomery County, and members of various public service organizations.

At this event, Rebecca Wilson (right) of SAVEourVotes presented beautifully drawn up formal certificates to Speaker Busch and Del. Sheila Hixson (center), Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, on behalf of SAVEourVotes, TrueVoteMD, and all Maryland voters. Del. Hixson was the House sponsor of a bill requiring a voter-verified paper record of votes, which passed the House unanimously in both the 2006 and 2007 sessions. Last year the bill stalled out in the Senate, but this year it passed both chambers and is expected to be signed by the governor soon.

Certificate to Del. HixsonWilson spoke of the need to fund the bill in next year's legislative session, while emphasizing that the maintenance costs of an optical scan system would be significantly less than with Maryland's current voting system. She stated that within a few years the State would find that it had actually saved millions of dollars while at the same time providing a superior system for all voters in Maryland to use.

There was much applause and good feeling among the attendees.
